Activity C: Bottom 5/Top 5
Classroom Benchmark Analysis Tool: Standard Alignment.
Download the Excel file for Grade 3 or Grade 8 ELA.
Launch the file and use the navigation bar on the right to select "Bottom 5/Top 5"
1. Identify the Bottom 5/Top 5 students.
2. Look at the individual scores for each student to detect patterns in the bottom 5. Take particular note of those students who don't show up in all of the categories for the Bottom 5. Record all of your observations.
3. Develop a plan to differentiate instruction to bring the bottom five students up. What classroom strategies for small group instruction might you recommend to a teacher based on these results?
4. How might you work with the top 5 students?
